GSL XXII

Championship Goal:msg-jones
The GSL International Scale Vehicle Championship and Convention was created to provide to serious scale vehicle modelers, of all ages, an opportunity to compete in an hospitable setting where basic and advance craftsmanship, innovation, and risk-taking are rewarded, and where the friendly exchange of modeling information is encouraged! Additionally , attendees can enjoy and learn from a wide range of seminars, evening discussions, two days of tours of the International Model Car Builders' Museum, a Museum-benefit auction, and a Trade Show.

The GSL XXII Preview is here...

Date/Place
1). Same Hotel! The Twenty-Second GSL Championship will be held on April 30 through May 3 2009 once again at the Salt Lake Sheraton Hotel located at 150 West 500 South, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Please stay at the Sheraton Hotel because that helps us cover the very substantial costs of hosting the event. If you book your room(s) at the Sheraton Hotel through one of the discount reservation services, please let us know so that we can get "credit" for your room stay. If you stay at another hotel to save a few dollars, our costs go up because GSL doesn't get credit for your room against the cost of the facilities. We need your support!

2. The Common Kit for GSL-XXII is the Revell Camaro, and the Group 9 kit is AMT's 1950 Ford convertible (any version).

Common Kit: The entrant may modify the kit body shape or style, swap parts from other kits, and use aftermarket parts (except for complete aftermarket resin bodies, though individual resin parts may be used), and use any building materials, techniques or technologies, subject to the "single builder" rules of the Championship. The intent of this Class is for each entrant to start with the same kit, then display their widest array of individual creativity, building skills, craftsmanship and technical innovations. (Of course, the Revell Camaro model built to the rules of this Class may be entered in another, appropriate Class instead, at the builder's option, but may compete in one Class only).

The GROUP 9 Class is intended to revive and celebrate vintage building styles, to create a fun and challenging forum for builders, to present a low-key venue for creative and enthusiastic building, and to celebrate the way models were built in the "good old days." The GSLXXII GROUP 9 model is any issue of the AMT 1950 Ford Convertible kit. For this Class, the kit can be built in any style with the skills and craftsmanship that you have today, but constructed using materials and supplies (except adhesives and paints) available 30 or more years ago (1979 or earlier). There are just three additional limitations: no one-off machined or photo-etched parts not fashioned by the entrant, no aftermarket products available after 1979, and no resin bodies or resin body parts. Bare Metal Foil may be used because it became available in 1979. Fourth through First Place Awards are selected by popular vote ballot, and announced as part of the Awards Presentation on Sunday morning. No entry in this Class is eligible for any Master Award. A model entered here may not also be entered in another Class, and an entrant may enter any number of models in this Class.

Those not purchasing an Awards Breakfast meal ticket may be admitted to the room to view the Awards ceremony and other morning activities on a space-available basis, but space is quite limited despite our new venue because of the continuing growth of the Championship and Convention.

4. GSL Publication Schedule: GSL will no longer print and distribute "hard copy" documents because of the very significant cost of doing so. Rather, GSL will present all information by PDF. To sign up to receive documents by e-mail, go here.

5. Other Details: We will continue the early Adult Registration Procedure first introduced at GSL-XX and continued at GSL-XXI.

Admittance to all GSL activities will only be by GSL Badge that will be issued at the registration desk; adult competitors, adult attendees and junior competitors/attendees all need to get a GSL badge.

Registration: Adult Competitors. Each Adult competitor will be charged a $35 fee for any number of models entered. This fee will cover attendance at all GSL events and the Museum Tour, but does not cover the cost of the Sunday morning Awards Breakfast.

Registration: Adult Convention Attendees. There will be a $15 per person charge for individuals 17 and older who will not be competing but who will be attending the Convention seminars, the trade show, going on any Museum tour, and participating in other activities. Convention-only participants are not eligible to receive the special premiums available to adult competitors. There is no early registration for adult attendees. This $15 "Attendance" fee will cover attendance at all GSL events and the Museum Tour, but does not cover the cost of the Sunday morning Awards Breakfast.

Registration: Junior Contestants and Attendees: Junior contestants and junior attendees (those 16 years of age and younger) may register on site, and will not be required to pay any fee. Junior contestants (but not junior convention attendees) shall receive special premium packages containing tools and other items suited to them. Junior contestants and attendees will be required to purchase a ticket for the Awards Brunch held on Sunday morning, May 3, 2009.

Please Participate in "GSL Online!" You can receive GSL publications and regular updates via the Internet. In fact, we urge you to do so we can save money that can be used for other GSL activities. Here's how it works: Whenever GSL headquarters is ready to publish a document, you will be notified via e-mail. You can then download the document in Acrobat PDF format. To view an Acrobat document, you need the Adobe Acrobat Reader which is a free application available from Adobe Systems.
